Mount Selinda Orphanage
Zimbabwe
In July 2025, Eastern Zimbabwe’s Mount Selinda Orphanage was destroyed by a devastating fire which swept through the institution. Rallying around the affected children, volunteers and staff, the Masiyiwa family brought together 1,000 donors across 10 countries, raising $40,000 USD in under three weeks. Now completely repaired, this was our first ever campaign and saw a local African community strengthened and supported to rebuild itself in its time of need. In the end, more than $81,000 was dedicated to the project as Remit Hope doubled the funds raised - a practice we vowed to commit to for every single act of generosity we met with. This organisational signature is present across our 181 current active initiatives, each built together with local groups, supporting them through crises as well as ongoing community-led development journeys. From our very beginnings with Mount Selinda, we are proud to see our unique capacity for mobilizing rapidly and scaling generosity encapsulated in every campaign. We aim to harness this to support over 25,000 people by 2030, continuing to grow and nurture sustainable African development.
