  Chiredzi Christian Children’s Home

  Chiredzi Christian Children’s Village was registered in 2002 as a church institution to take care of OVCs. The institution is under the administration of Hippo Valley Christian Mission which is a Christian Organization based in the United States of America. Chiredzi Christian Children’s Village is among seven registered orphanages in Masvingo Province. The institution is situated in Chiredzi urban at stand 3241 Tsovani Township. Chiredzi is an agro-based town, and its existence has been made possible through Hippo Valley, Triangle and Mkwasine estates. The institution has 80 OVCs out of about 5000 institutionalised OVCs nationwide according to the Ministry of services welfare. Its main goal when it was founded was to take care of those children who were completely destitute and abandoned. This was the only institution in the district at that period. Now there are two orphanages in the district. Currently it houses 51 children and it is making sure that they are living well whilst trying to equip them for the future.

  Chambuta Children’s Home

  Chambuta children’s Home is a government founded Home located in Chilonga, Chiredzi North district of Masvingo Province. The Home was a former refugee camp established in 1988 to shelter Mozambican refugees displaced by civil war in that country. When they returned to their country, the Government converted it into a children’s Home. The Home was established as a suitable place to provide shelter to children living and working on the streets of the various towns in the country. As part of imparting skills, the home has a running vocational training scheme which provides skills to children from the Home and from the community. Currently the home is housing 60 children, 40 in Primary and 20 in Secondary School.

  Chinyaradzo Children’s home

  Chinyaradzo Children’s Home provides residential care for at least 60 children, ranging from birth to 18 years old. The Home was designed to provide temporary shelter for children while alternative arrangements were being made. This includes reintegration with the extended family members and arrangements for foster care. The home spearheads foster care programs in close liaison with the Department of Social Welfare. However, because of the increasing number of orphans and their needs, coupled with economic hardships, alternative places of committal are no longer easily available. As a result, children have found themselves living at Chinyaradzo Children’s Home for all eighteen years of their lives. Therefore, to respond strategically to the needs of these children, the purpose of the Home was reviewed. Chinyaradzo now exists to provide a permanent Home to children in difficult circumstances from ages 0-18.
