Lerato Children’s Home is situated on a 15-acre plot, Plot 34A Independence Way, Weirmouth, Mutare Manicaland Zimbabwe. The Home is a registered Care Institution, with Registration Number (SW10/148) under the Children’s Act Chapter 5:06, Section 31. Lerato Children’s Home was registered in 2016 out of passion for children in need of Care. It started to receive children to its Care in 2017. The Home is a Christian Based Organization affiliated with Emmanuel Ministries Church. It is registered to take care of children from the age of 3 to 16 years and only receives children from the Department of Social Development (DSD). The children are discharged from the Home when they reach the age of 18years or are reunified when the Probation Officer identifies willing relatives or foster parents to stay with the children. It has a total carrying capacity of 20 children at any given time. Each house accommodates 10 children under the care of a fulltime Mother. It has sheltered a total number of 45 children since 2017. The Home provides a safe and conducive environment to Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in Zimbabwe. Lerato Children’s Home provides shelter, access to education, basic health care, emotional and psychological support for children to heal from their past traumatic experiences which include sexual, emotional and physical abuses as well as neglect and abandonment.
